The Exchange Program

The exchange programs are important in obtaining non-commercial publications such as government reports and scientific research. A few are official exchange relationships similar to that of the depository library program within the United States. Working with the Government Printing Office, the Library of Congress exchanges American government documents in return for the official government documents of the recipient country. These exchange programs are significant in strengthening ties and promoting goodwill between the United States and foreign nations.

With the exception of official exchanges, exchange partners receive publications based on their expressed interest. LC-Jakarta usually provides commercial publications from the Unites States; however, it also exchanges titles collected from Southeast Asia. The exchange program is generally limited to monographs. Each institution receives material of equivalent value. Normally, the exchange is on a piece by piece basis.

LC-Jakarta is interested in forming new exchange relationships. Institutions wishing to participate in an exchange program should contact us at one of the addresses listed on this web site.
