Office
The Bangkok representative office of the Library of Congress (LC) is responsible for the collection of
materials, both in paper and electronic resources from Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.
We collect materials from governmental offices, non-governmental organizations, international institutions,
social and economic institutions, and commercial bookstores. This section collects more than 1,157 serials
and 2,227 monographs annually.
LC-Bangkok seeks to build a representative collection on Thai, Cambodian and Lao culture, history,
and civilization as well as documenting their contributions in the fields of social welfare, planning and
development, economics, government, politics, sociology, history, education, military science and other areas.
Materials are collected in Thai, Lao, Khmer and some Burmese. Once materials are acquired, a preliminary
bibliographic record is made, and the materials are then sent on to Jakarta and other LC centers to be cataloged,
bound and microformatted if necessary, and shipped to LC-Washington or participant institutions.
The Bangkok section is currently located in the US Embassy compound in Central Bangkok. We will be able to open new services with participant programs in Thailand and Laos with more space and facilities to provide quality service to the scholarly community.
