Letter to UN Security Council on Justice and Accountability
The UN Security Council reviewed the UN Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) prior to a decision on its renewal. Representatives of 60 organizations signed the letter to urging the Security Council to take concrete action to ensure justice and accountability for crimes committed during the Indonesian occupation.

Leadership Crisis in the Judicial Organs of TL
Based on monitoring conducted by JSMP, the post of president of the Court of Appeal has been vacant for almost one year, because the incumbent president is receiving medical treatment in Portugal. Noted during that period until now there is a leadership crisis in this judicial body because the authorities have placed all of their hopes on one person who they believe has the capacity to handle the post of president of the Court of Appeal and they think that the other career judges do not yet have the capacity to take on this post, an assumption focusing on their perceived lack of understanding of legal theory, practice and doctrine

Digest of the Jurisprudence of the Special Panels for Serious Crimes
In 2000 the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) established a system of criminal laws and institutional structures designed to bring to justice those who had been responsible for the commission of serious crimes in East Timor. The judicial arm of this system is referred as the Special Panels for Serious Crimes (SPSC). This report aims to collate some of the SPSC’s most significant judicial findings and observations.

Progress to Date in the Cases of Rogerio Lobato and Mari Alkatiri
In recent months much attention has focused on the arrest of former Interior Minister Rogerio Tiago Lobato and the investigations underway by the Timorese Public Prosecution Service into the possible criminal liability of both Lobato and former Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri. However limited information has been available to the public about these cases and there has been significant misinformation published in both the local and international media. In this report, JSMP hopes to clarify the processes that are underway in these cases and to provide some legal commentary on the conduct of the proceedings to date by the Office of the Prosecutor-General and the DIli District Court.

Restrictive Measure, Pre-Trial Detention, Parole and Suspension of the Execution of a Prison Sentence.
Aiming to clarify a few judicial concepts in order to improve public information, JSMP, Women’s Justice Unit whose main objective is to analyze legal matters, particularly those related to domestic violence and sexual assault, is committed to explain to the public, in simple words, the meaning of this concepts according to Timor-Leste’s laws particularly the Penal Procedural Code.
